Ford carried out a study that showed Londoners dislike their commute more than a visit to the dentist.
Despite its reputation as a cold and rainy place, London has been experiencing fantastic summer heatwaves.
The good weather is often great above ground but on the London Underground, temperatures are uncomfortably warm. Add in the fact that the summer sees more visitors and tourists crowding the London underground stations and it’s clear that there are ways to make your summer commute into London more enjoyable.
As a central London events venue based just moments from Trafalgar Square, we are very knowledgeable about the best ways to get to the heart of the city.
Take a look at our top 3 tips below to make your commute more bearable during these summer months:
Walk from place A to B
Our central London events venue is close to a few tube stations, but we often prefer to walk when going to different spots around London. To most, it is surprising how close some tube stations are to each other and instead of the cost and time of heading underground, it can be just as effective to take a stroll.
The TFL map below shows the walking distances between different tube stations in London. Why not keep a copy to hand and next time you need to be somewhere for a meeting or social event, see if it’s walkable? Walking is not only healthier but it can also be more enjoyable than cramming onto public transport or waiting around for the next train or bus in peak travel times.
Do something Positive
If you have a long commute each day it can be frustrating/disheartening, especially in summer when there is nice weather outside and you’d rather be out there enjoying yourself, it can feel like a chore.

The answer to this malaise may be to do something positive on your journey. If you’re on the train, bus or even driving to work then there is an opportunity to learn a new skill such as a new language, start writing a work of fiction or find an educational podcast that can help your studies, career, home or social life.
You’ll find that when you’re immersed in something positive that you enjoy, you won’t really notice the commute at all. Read our article on how the commute to your event could be affecting your guests.
Add Variety
Our team try to mix up their commute especially during these summer months when the weather is good and running, cycling or walking is more enjoyable. Instead of taking the same underground, train, bus, car journey or bike ride to work each day, alternate the method of transport and route you take.
Perhaps one day you could run to work, the next take a rest and use the underground and exercise your mind on the journey into central London instead. If you want to plan new routes you can use one of the many apps available for Android or the App store, or use TFL’s Journey Planner.
