What better way to do so than sampling fine wines?
It’s the start of spring after all, and who doesn’t love an extra day off? Given that we’re based in the heart of the City, we thought we’d share some of our plans for the May bank holiday of 2018.
Art
One of the best things about working at such a central London venue (there are a lot!) is that we are close to abundances of beautiful places. There are a range of amazing art exhibitions happening right now and we can’t wait to see them. We’re in love with Tacita Dean's exhibit, PORTRAIT, showing now at the National Portrait Gallery.
Theatre
As London’s most central venue we are blessed with having multiple shows on our doorstep and we love nothing more than an evening at the theatre whilst it’s still a little cold at night. Watch the fantastic Dreamgirls or the much-talked-about Killer Joe for an evening of brilliant entertainment.
Food markets
Walking the streets and exploring the City takes on new meaning over the May bank holiday. Central London is abuzz with night markets and street food stalls. It’s exciting to experience flavours from around the world so close to our central London venue. We recommend taking a short tube to Borough Market to explore the fantastic Slow Food’s (a sponsor of our sister restaurant Boyds Grill & Wine Bar) they have on offer.
Museums
The Natural History Museum and the British Museum are always favourites with us, but this May bank holiday we’re thinking of heading to some of the lesser-known wonders of the London museum scene.
The Viktor Wynd Museum of Natural Curiosities, Fine Art and Natural History is known to be a wild and strange collection. Pollock’s Toy Museum is on the list too - everything from the world’s oldest teddy bear to well-loved childhood favourites.
Wine sampling
Some of our events team are looking forward to letting their hair down a little for the long weekend and what better way to do so than sampling fine wines? Our sister restaurant Boyds Grill & Wine Bar have an extensive list of the finest wines and the amazing wine-by-the-glass machine means you can sample however many you like without the commitment of buying a bottle!
Gardens
It wouldn’t be London without the hidden green spaces. These are perfect for relaxing in the mornings or for a merry Spring picnic. File these away for your lunch breaks too - they are such great places to unwind.
We love the Japanese rooftop garden in Bloomsbury, the Red Cross garden in Borough and of course Victoria Embankment Gardens where you will find members of our central London venue team, eating lunch in the summer months.
Get out there and enjoy the Spring weather this coming long weekend - we will be! London is a never-ending source of places to explore. The May bank holiday brings out a relaxed atmosphere just perfect for wandering, day and night.
Who knows, you might bump into one of our event professionals gathering inspiration for your next event or heading back to our stunning venue located just moments from Trafalgar Square.
